As a Miami family law attorney and Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator, Nicole “Niki” Alvarez has dedicated her career exclusively to helping individuals and families navigate complex family law matters, including divorce, parenting disputes, support matters, and equitable distribution of assets and liabilities.
Nicole began her legal career practicing Family and Marital Law at one of Miami’s leading boutique family law firms, where she gained extensive experience handling complex, high net-worth, and often high-conflict family law matters. After more than fifteen years of practice, Nicole launched Nicole Alvarez Family Law in September 2025 with a focus on providing clients with a more personalized, strategic, and resolution-focused approach to family law.
Today, Nicole focuses her practice on family law dispute resolution, including negotiated settlements, mediation, collaborative approaches, and other alternatives to traditional litigation whenever appropriate. Nicole is also trained in Collaborative Divorce and believes that, when possible, families benefit from solutions that prioritize efficiency, privacy, and long-term stability.
Nicole is also Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator and uses her experience as both a family law advocate and neutral mediator to help clients approach difficult decisions with clarity and confidence.
Nicole has been recognized by Super Lawyers® as a 2026 Super Lawyer and was previously named a Super Lawyers® “Rising Star” in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Leadership in Florida Family Law
Nicole remains actively involved in advancing the practice of family law throughout Florida through her involvement with the Florida Bar Family Law Section. She has been appointed to serve on several committees, including the Legislation Committee, Support Issues Committee, Rules and Forms Committee, Publications Committee, Equitable Distribution Committee, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee.
Through this work, Nicole stays engaged with legislative developments, procedural updates, emerging family law issues, and the continued evolution of dispute resolution practices throughout Florida. Her involvement reflects her commitment not only to serving her individual clients, but also to contributing to the continued advancement of the family law profession.
Nicole has also continued her professional education through advanced family law programs, including successful completion of the Family Law Section Trial Advocacy Workshop in July 2017 and attendance at the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Institute for Family Law Associates in Chicago, Illinois.
In 2012, Nicole presented a continuing legal education lecture on Handling Pro Bono Divorce, organized by the Cuban American Bar Association.
Additional Background
Nicole is an active member of the Florida Bar Family Law Section and the Florida Association for Women Lawyers. She is also a member of the Dade County Bar Association, the Cuban American Bar Association, and the First Family Law American Inn of Court.
Nicole earned her Juris Doctor degree from Drexel University School of Law, where she served as a member of the Law Review and was a founding member and Vice President of the Latin American Law Student Association of Drexel Law, as well as a founding member and Secretary of the Drexel Business Law Organization.
During law school, Nicole clerked for the Honorable Robert N. Scola, Jr., then a Florida Circuit Court Judge, and the Honorable Berle M. Schiller of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Prior to law school, Nicole earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, where she double-majored in Government and Legal Studies and Sociology. Nicole remains actively involved with Bowdoin College and currently serves as Chair of the BRAVO National Advisory Board.
Nicole is admitted to practice law in Florida and Maine and is admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
